TEACHING
THE CONSTITUTION
Did you know that September
17 is
Constitution Day?
Not many people do--which is why a new law requires every school
receiving federal funds to teach the Constitution on this national
holiday, the anniversary of the 1787 signing. The purpose of the law is
to ensure that Americans are educated about the foundations of the
country's government.
When Constitution Day falls on a weekend, as it does this year,
teachers have leeway regarding whether to present the topic the week
before or the week after the holiday.
